I went on Facebook earlier. I saw a post in a 'Lord of The Rings' group that shared a meme comparing orcs to immigrants. The whole joke was that the orc said "my son was born in the shire therefore he is a hobbit" because you know. Immigrants and refugees.
And then I saw a Bobs Burger group where the main post was the family holding up an anti Trans flag. This stuff is daily. The comments are much worse.
I see this everyday and I partially blame all of you here. So many of you here were the 'exodus' people. Convincing every liberal or leftist user to block and ban and remove ourselves from other areas online. Since then everything has become so much worse and even though responsibility is on the poster, I still hold so many of you responsible for quitting when you're needed the most.
I come here to lemmy to see if anything crazy good is happening and it isn't. Like 4chan launched whole ass investigations. A bunch of racist morons performed some of the greatest opsec in internet history. Lemmy is posting about beans and moths and I just don't know what to do beyond being mad at you all.
And I get it, touch grass. But that doesn't help when I log off and go out only to find that the hatred and toxicity from these major platforms is infecting the whole yard. There's no escape. And you people who are suppose to be the resistance can't be fucking bothered. We should be out there. Identifying these networks and the latest strategies being used to corrupt everything. We should be innovating and building protections with fediverse. Instead we got pro China moderation and censorship and bean memes. I don't know. It's just defeating.

Right but so are people. This was all inevitable from the start. Much worse stuff is coming. People should have been embracing methods to avoid this stuff decades ago. I'm not just talking about using a fucking ad blocker. There needed to be measures to fuck with data collection. Become hostile to any site's or content creators looking to sell viewers anything. Run applications that could feed junk data back to sites.
Had people started earlier they wouldn't be facing the giant industry that grew out of a digital spaces that welcomed the things that eventually grew into this data collection beast we all knew were coming.

I don't think we got pushed out so much as they made it hostile. They weaponized reporting. That's fine. We can to except we can't any longer since we didn't organize well.
The glue being this is the network. I watched them connect their network pre 2016. I didn't get at the time why it was happening. But you could see small random annoying fucks adding everybody. It turned into a wild organized information dissemination network. That's how they weaponized reporting and made it appear that all these platforms were against the left.
