Like, I get it. People are assholes, and I 100% agree that is the case. But assholes have been recording themselves doing asshole things for decades, this isn’t new behavior, and it feels like its being used to vilify tech for existing.

This is arguably a worse situation then. They aren’t naming crypto as banned, they are naming a vague hand wave as banned. Literally anything can be interpreted as harming Codebergs reputation. Hell, is reputation defined, or is that something that can be decided on the fly? “Our reputation as an anti emulation company is being harmed so we have banned all emulator projects.”

Take out the ability to record stealthily and they’re a great idea. Overlay art on walls, place monitors in your real space, do work on a laptop with the screen off, put directions in the actual world so you’re not looking at a screen, and that just what I can think of off the top of my head.

Don’t let the tech conglomerates ruin an amazing tech concept.

How often are you moving your printer that the weight is a concern?

Couple things.

First, those are likely “third shift” products. The Chinese company that’s making the original product does more than ordered, and off the books. Slap a different sticker on it, and you can sell it without worry of it being caught as a counterfeit.

Secondly, there is something to be said of going through the original manufacturer. They have warranties, and actually care about their name so will go to some extent to support you if something goes wrong.

Now is that worth doubling the price? Not likely. But it’s something to keep in mind.

Satellite internet is extremely important for certain regions of the world. Good luck running anything to remote areas like Alaska, or areas of northern Canada.

It’s an extremely important piece of infrastructure, even if you have zero use for it.

I’d say LEO is where we want these, no? My understand is that if SpaceX went defunct tomorrow, the satellites would (eventually) burn up on reentry, so there’s no risk of them managing to fragment and become more permanent bullets wizzing around in our orbit. Or is that incorrect?
