I mean i could have just as easily described the process. Cutting a trench is a process, most of which was automated by the back hoe, conveyor, dump truck, and laser levels. Before, 20 or 30 people would be required for trench work which is now often done by a crew of two.

The construction industry is one of the most heavily automated and mechanized industries in existence. We just don't think about things like "back hoe", "crane", "nail gun" or "concrete plant" as forms of automation because they have been around for so long, but they have all replaced more manual aspects of construction processes.
For example when you see someone you met before it could pop up a bubble telling you their name, their relationship to you, when you saw them last, previous topics that you’ve discussed with them, etc.
This legit sounds terrible. This sound like a world without meaningful social connections where people are cocooned into isolation by convenience technologies. You should just learn people's names. Even if it makes you a bit anxious because you are worried you will mess up details sometimes, it is better than that kind of loneliness.
All these stories about VR, then metverse/crypto, then ai, and now gambling. It seems like Zuckerberg is trying to recreate the early success he had in an emerging field but, at a fundamental level, does not understand that facebook was successful largely due to luck and timing.
Sometimes I think America cannot be a good place to live until the myth of the "tech genius" is thoroughly broken.
That gradual reduction in speed is typical for roads passing through rural towns in the US. There is often a 25mph for the town center too (or at least the most dense portion of the road as it passes through the town). These are typically rural roads, not the main highways/interstates that do this. They are usually low traffic roads where building a bypass would not be economical.
Motorists don't like them because they have to slow down for a few minutes. Which is the greatest evil imaginable. The only reason for a lower speed limit is to scam the motorist. The ~8000 pedestrians and bicyclists that are killed each year on the roads is a small price to pay for being able to go fast through someone's neighborhood.
