Did they break this story? Looks like this is a copy-paste article on hundreds of shitty sites: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=fpas&q=chaos+computer+club+solar+vulnerability+remote+chinese&ia=web

The Chaos Computer Club is real, and awesome, but I cand find anything on their site or YouTube about this yet. It was probably not in English though so thats on me: https://www.ccc.de/en/home

Edit, I just had to scroll down: https://lemmy.ca/post/67687895/24241020

Those GPUs will be about as useful as a bitcoin miner for gaming. As in exactly not useful.

They may be really useful for running your own local LLM, as long as you don't mind the hefty power bill and jet engine noise.

I prefer the off lease commercial thinkpads too, but I am glad someone is actually creating new stuff for that market. The used thinkpad market can't grow.

Agreed. Give me a chonky 2000 era wall of ports along the side. I'm weird though, and people like thin laptops they can hold in one hand.

"Most of the market" includes the segments of commercial support contracts for office laptops which Framework doesn't even target. Then you have the next biggest which is "go to Costco/Walmary/bestbuy and get what is on sale. So Framework simply cannot be a majority brand without those.

Among the remaining segment, e.g., developers that get to shop around and buy whatever they want? Its fairly popular.

The AI companies will die. That is fact. Some will even die quickly when the bubble pops. What cannot continue must stop. The earlier the bubble pops, the less the harm.

Also, resessions are moneymaking for the extremely wealthy. They lose wealth on paper (unrealized), but they are positioned to "buy stock when it is on sale", not to mention benefit from government stimulus and bailouts. Its all the small time pension investors that get hosed the most.

Ahem, what they are still doing based on everyone's overloaded webserver logs.

That is true, and so I suspect the only truly FLOSS models we will ever see will be highly specialised to a particular task; which is, in the long run, fine by me. A coding llm that comes with a huge corpus of open source training code, maybe even just in a specific language, a speech to text model with a corpus of transcribed creative commons audio, probably a single language or pair of languages if its for translation, etc. That way the datasets, while still huge, could actually be curated by a single community.

Quite literally the entire history of copyright. Each generation of robber barrons angry at the next generations upstart criminals skimming their rent.

For torrents specifically, I would suggest getting some friends together to rent a seedbox or VPS on a torrent friendly provider. You may have total monthly bandwidth limits, but you have much better speed because p2p works so much better with a publically routable IP and open ports anyway.

Its the last remnant of the various property owning/landed gentry/aristocracy control of government. They had to give up their exclusive right to sit in court and then "democratic" government, and then their exclusive right to vote.

They are holding on to money-as-influence, trying to convince us its fair because everyone can make donations (you get a great tax receipt!!). However, even donation limits are mainly just a way to cover up their thumbs on the scale, because all they require the rich to do is spread out their money.
