My brother in law actually tried to hook me up at the car place he worked at, and my job would have been to go to auctions and estate sales looking for nice cars for the dealership to buy. It would essentially have been a couple things they want me to go to per week, but then I'd have to be looking myself for things like Craigslist, marketplace, and paper listings.

Didn't end up going for the job, due to the owners being shit head MAGAts, but it would have been interesting for a few months.

That's what I imagine any place that NEEDS pre-40s metal would do. Have a person who just goes to places that have blacksmithing tools advertised and buy them. Probably big auctions though, I imagine smallest ate sales wouldn't get much attention.

A guy I used to know who would go to estate sales looking for blacksmithing equipment once told me the market for old metalworking stuff is disappearing because too much stuff is being bought by companies én masse for this reason.

I don't know if I believe that companies are buying small lot auctions and estate sales for old anvils, but he was sure convinced.

I like to joke I'm sitting on a pile of cash because my anvil isn't radioactive. (it's not a very good joke, but it carries some weight!)

Astronomy history is fascinating to me. We used to think that other galaxies were just nebula in the milky way.

We would still have all the stars from our own galaxy to study, but I think that given how much we have improved telescopes with the intent on studying CLOSE stars, those improvements would have led to the discovery of galaxies 100 million LY+ away.

Fun fact: we don't know what's on the other side of the galactic disc from us. As we look toward Sag A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy, there's too much dust and non-luminous matter in the way, and we can't really see what's past a certain point. There's also something pulling all the galaxies around us (and us) toward it, in that big patch of what we can't see. It's called the Great Attractor. We know it's pulling on us because of red/blue shift of surrounding galaxies, but we don't actually know what it is that's pulling. It COULD be a large cluster of galaxies whose gravity is just pulling us all together, but it might also be some cosmic eldritch horror that's literally consuming the universe. That last one is slightly less likely though...

That's always been my thought. "you must sacrifice something you love" and the whole reason Gamorrah was laughing is because she believed Thanos had no love of anything or anyone.

And of course something like that can't be exactly quantified in scientific terms, so the stone would have to go off whatever the person considers love. So I do believe that Thanos loved her and nebula, but I also don't think his version of what he considers love to be comparable to most other living beings.

Oh I hated the accelerated reading tests. To prove a point in 5th grade, about how it's not actually making me want to read because of rewards, since I could read 20 kindergarten level books and get more points than the 2 500+ page books I was reading, and it would take less time.
