Oh no, I'm aware (and really want a Suzuki jimny here, much better than a jeep in a similar form factor as you noted), but Jimmy and Jimny sound so similar that I would just cause confusion between the two brands, which is why I figured that would be why they didn't use the name.

Funny enough, we do have old Jimmy's, but they were from GMC (just rebadged Chevy blazers). Probably why Suzuki couldn't use the name in the states.
Hopefully not coming off as too much of an ass, but normies largely won't care, as it doesn't immediately affect them. Knowing it's a bad thing requires a bit of understanding about an operating system that most people just don't know or care to learn about.
My point is that while it's a pc, it's more positioned to be a console. If steam limited sales to one per customer and only for established steam accounts for the first runs (like they are already beginning to do for the steam deck and controllers), then they could force it to be more of a console. I do think it'll still be a bad launch, as the goal of the steam machine clearly is to put them in Xbox territory for regular consumers, and the current price and any other changes probably won't help that for new customers.
Not particularly. Steam gets 30% back on all game sales, so if they can make sure the steam machine gets only to people with established steam accounts, then they're probably coming out ahead.
My guess is it makes spoofing accounts seem more valid, also maybe boosts small time channels by creating (fake) engagement, so the YouTube algorithm picks up content from that channel. My "proof" is that when you see a shorts video with random top 5 family guy compilations (or other such bullshit), their comment section is usually filled with stupid responses like this (or asking what the source of the material is, despite it often being in the title).
