Ever since I reboot I've been hating you!
I've had a Debian install brick itself on update / restart. As annoying as Windows is, it hasn't done that to me. Nothing is perfect, there are horrible software crimes hiding under every system you could name.
I've had my Arch install boot into emergency mode a couple of times, usually because an HDD was missing or added and I had to edit the fstab file, but I've never had one "brick" itself. I have actually had Windows brick itself once, when the MBR got corrupted. You can't fix that, best you can do is extract your files via another working system if they were unencrypted.
