About fucking time.

Citizen's United (and similar corruption) took away our ability to regulate tech billionaires, but we still out number them.

If they want to stop being scared, they can curb their parasitic behaviors and return the billions they have extracted.

Edit: Getting off of the list of the world's billionaires is a path filled with fancy meals, accolades, ribbon cutting ceremonies, and thank-you letters from happier children.

Billionaires have a moral obligation to a cushy job (become non-billionares), and they aren't doing it, today.

[–] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 27 points 1 month ago

Exactly. They have the means to change their behavior. If they don't, they will suffer the consequences. Just like mussolini and Gaddafi

I would actually say this is very good.

If you're going to be intentionally evil, you should probably do a lot of checking over your shoulder.

On the other hand, I wouldn't want to be a bodyguard for someone with crowd-sourced enemies.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The bodyguard thing makes me wonder.

More and more of these guys will want protection. They will likely hire this protection. And as more protection is needed, vetting the people that provide that protection will become less strict.

And sooner or later, you have someone with a gun and a motive walking right beside Bob the Billionaire.

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 2 points 1 month ago

Billions of potential suspects.

Greedy pigs who stomp on the citizenry live in fear of the citizenry, their customers. Who woulda thunk? Big problems with the economy under ~~capitalism~~ greed in the old usa.

To use their own words against them...

We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind investors that the workers have the power, not the other way around.

[–] moustachio@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They really have been just screaming for capitalism to be dismantled, haven’t they?

It’s kind of embarrassing we’ve gone along with this system as long as we have.

[–] ephrin@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

It’s really embarrassing. The French would have had four riots about already just today.

[–] aurellence@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 month ago

Fuck around, find out.

My thought exactly.

Paywall, but going by the headline: good

The world is burning and these assholes are making it worse.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What I thought the article was going to be about, assuming it was clickbait: Tech Executives losing their jobs after losing their company's money on AI, or Tech Executives realizing that it's their jobs that could most easily be replaced by AI.

What the article was actually about: Literally murder threats and firebombing their houses and that sort of thing.

I have no comment beyond being surprised that the headline was literal.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 15 points 1 month ago

This shouldn't come as any surprise. Unions came about to negotiate over reasonable terms for work because people started to burn down mansions of factory owners, with or without the guy's family inside. Or just cyberpunk 2077 where chapter 1 shows all the nice tech and then some folks nuke the corporate headquarter and kidnap corporate techs. I mean that's a serious hint.

The started thinking it through just that one step further.

Welcome to our world

Somehow I think AI execs missed the part that if there is money, land, fuel and water enough to build hundreds of data centers the size of towns, then there should be the same available to house & feed the people of the nation. If there is far more capital to be thrown in the garbage to try to get top billing on a product that doesn't yet work and may never work, it is impossible to believe that the problems assailing 50%0or more of the population cannot be addressed.

Is live-streaming out of the question ?

[–] RoddyStiggs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

We don't need them if their products work

I don't condone violence but, these assholes are the ones that got us into this mess. There's no accountability, no liability for their actions; whether they meant for any of this to happen or didn't. We're living in a world where AI has caused way more problems and economic instability than before.

It's fair to say AI has made the world a considerably worse place than it was prior. It's impacting jobs, supply, replacing thinking with using a chatbot for absolutely everything. If it was up to me, I'd rather have no AI and go back to what we had before than it just completely ruining every industry it touches (which is nearly all of them).

not far enough.

[–] Abyssian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Hopefully someone sets them all on fire.

As long as you motherfuckers breathe our lives will get better.

You destroy our environment, our lives and our future.

Be afraid, too long you have lived comfortably at our expense.

Judgement and recompense is coming.
