Not exactly the same, but there is not a great handle on auto pay either. I pay a sub for the gf on ESO, the CC they have on file expired at least 1 CC cycle ago and they are still happily taking the money for her sub, on one hand WTAF??? on the other hand since she plays it all the time I just let it slide, when I get my next renewed CC I will ask my bank why they are allowing an expired card to still function. So far as my physical cards I always cut the mag strip in half and then several pieces, and the chip once in half.

I got the warlock expansion for D2 on bnet using my card on file, which expired several years earlier and I just never updated.
Charge said it went through, I have access to expansion content, but I never had a corresponding charge on my bank account. I think I got an email about it, but I ignored it. Still have access, no apparent evidence of payment, and there's no negative balance on my bnet account that I've found.
I think I just got the game for free by using an expired CC?
When I was a kid, I saw my mom cut expired cards in half when throwing them away.
Ever since then, I always strategically cut my old cards into several pieces, making sure to break up the number, chip, date, name, etc. I'll throw them away in separate trash cans and maybe wait to throw some pieces out after we take out the trash for a week.
Lol, it's pure silliness, no one is desperately piecing cards together out of my trash. (In reality, you'd probably just find compromised cards online, or go hit someone with a wrench.)
But this headline makes me feel ever so slightly justified in my goofy behavior.
My soulmate!
I'm not the only one!
I just got a shredder with a slot for cards, shreds the whole thing to tiny bits, infos, microchip, stripe
But yeah if you buy dumb stuff on shady websites online, nothing will save your credit card info from being scraped electronically.
on shady websites online
Which is basically any website these days.
You never know when even the biggest names in online retailers are going to store your credit card information ... and then 'oopsie' get hacked or leak the data.
It may not even be the website that leaks the data. It could be the payment processor they use that has a data breach.
Exactly. Just look up news about data leaks. They are basically happening constantly.
I just use Privacy. Probably not the best choice for personal privacy, considering it's available through the app store, but at the very least the disposable digital cards help prevent that specific problem
Google Pay/Apple Pay and unique card numbers per purchase, automatically
Got a shredder for that.... And then they started making metal cards real common 😒 gotta buy a pair of tinsnips now
For metal cards, at least for Amex, you mail the card back and they handle the destruction for you. I thiiiink Chase does this too.
I have better peace of mind in doing it myself and knowing that it has been done
I just use them as picks when prying things apart.
I always just burned mine.
This is why i call and repirt my cards stolen every 6 months. I get a new card with new numbers and any charges that might come up happened after the card reported stolen.
