As of a few minutes ago old.reddit.com now seems to requre logging in to access it.

Shame as it was still the best place to browse for info about some niche interests.

Edit: Seems like they might be testing the change as it is hit or miss at the moment.

Edit: Adding this to My flilters in uBlock Origin seems to fix the issue for the time being:

it already requires being loggd in for about 2 weeks

Edit: the post title is also wrong. the interface is still available. you just need to be logged in

They are also forcing it for regular reddit. I get a pop up and when closed you can't scroll. There is even a thread about what to put in ublock to work around it.

Is Reddit still a thing? I wasn't aware?

I thought that it had evolved into a bot parliament.

Been gone. Fuck reddit!

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

They probably are tightening down to try and slow AI scraper bots.

Either way, I've mostly given up Reddit for Lemmy anyway. I looked the other day and realized I haven't even commented on Reddit in 4 months.

I can still see it while not logged in but I assume it is only a matter of time. https://old.lemmy.world/ ftw

I found something interesting when I check a few hours ago. I was logged out to set the stage. I goto the main page it works. I use the search bar to find a sub and it works. But all the links on that subs page to related subs direct you to the "You have to log in"

So I was like, hmm what if I type one of these links into the search bar and see if I can get the link that way? It worked I could access the link that previous required a log in

I'm sure they will close that loophole and reddit will continue its decline...

I use safereddit.com now, it's unfortunate I can't access old reddit. New reddit is safer my ass

You shouldn't be propping up fascists & chatbot companies by using reddit.

I don't like to spend my days on reddit, so I have my Hermes agent scrape the subreddits I want news from to get a digest. Today it started failing. So my Hermes agent got the credentials to a throwaway and carried on like usual.

I've seen this a few times, I've just abandoned the thing I clicked and quickly found a different source.

Wasn't even an inconvenience. This is a real stupid idea on Reddit's part.

reddit.com resolves to ::1 for me :)

That way I can't even accidentally click on a reddit link.

Not just old reddit. Regular reddit also got login gated

No bueno here, it just redirected me to a blank page. Still couldn't use old reddit.

[–] Balldowern@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Good. I knew reddit was going down the tubes when they stopped API access to 3rd parties.

Let it burn down.
