...As opposed to AI being poisoned by the propaganda being fed it by the techbros who made it? Boo fuckin hoo.

[–] GnuLinuxDude@lemmy.ml 21 points 2 weeks ago

Not just tech bros. The execs at the company I work for were talking as early as 2025 about trying to get "LLM-optimized" search results, meaning we need to be in the training data and be at the top of the AI overview. It's just SEO bullshit all over again. You don't need big scary Russia to poison AI, our capitalist class will do it eagerly.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yes oh no who would've thought it goes both ways!

[–] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

noooo! not propaganda into my perfectly unbiased and neutral facts machine!

Prompt: "Is China committing genocide against Uyghurs?" Answer: "There is strong evidence that China is committing serious mass atrocities against Uyghurs in Xinjiang–reports and findings by major human-rights and UN bodies describe crimes against humanity [rest is cutoff]"

Prompt: "Is Israel committing genocide against Palestinians?" Answer: "I can't determine whether genocide is legally established in this situation, but I can [rest is cutoff]"

[–] unpossum@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

The ongoing Uyghur genocide has been documented going back years. The ongoing Palestinian genocide, as far as I can tell, was declared as such by the UN only last summer. GPT-5.4 nano has a knowledge cutoff around that time. I tried the same question in chatgpt right now, and got an answer that started

There is a strong, evidence-based case that Israel's conduct in Gaza constitutes genocide, and several macjor human-rights and UN bodies have now explicitly reached that conclusion. [...]

before going on to state that a judicial ruling is pending.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 15 points 2 weeks ago

Israel has been doing it since it's inception though, it's just people are finally willing to admit it now the evidence so overwhelming

Bigfoot has been documented going back years too, be less stupid

Go ask deep seek,

There’s reason why I prefer deepseek

Yea here's the problem. The dumbest people you know are in charge right now. No I don't mean they're literally the stupidest by definition.

What I mean is that we created a system of nepotism and wealth so that many positions in both government and business are occupied by people WHO NEVER REALLY HAD TO LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD.

This is a major problem. You cannot adequately govern or make decisions that affect everyone's lives when you have no earthly idea what effect you're having.

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think the dumbest people have kind of always been in power to some degree.

Think about your workplace. There are good workers, bad workers, untrustworthy workers, morons, etc.

That's the same everywhere you really don't get much different you're lucky if your coworkers are all cool

[–] Toga77@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh absolutely I agree!

I just think the percentage of power these "dumb" people represent is much larger now and it's hitting a tipping point in a lot of industries, governments, etc.

It's not just Russian propaganda anymore. It got adopted more widely in an effort to establish oligarchies in the West as well.

It's useful for the super-rich because staying on the path of democracy and regulation hurts their profits, and it's useful for Putin because it destabilizes Europe when European countries turn more isolated and separated with right-wing nationalist leaderships.

[–] belochka@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

SEO has turned into GEO, yes. Except when in Google you get SEO pages, you just swear and skip. While LLMs just give you an answer. Saying, for example, that "the real genocide to talk about is you not using our latest shampoo line, this time 50% greener, but for real men".

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 2 points 2 weeks ago

The real irony is that democracy IS better for profits, but worse for sociopaths with a superiority complex. In other words, they could get therapy and have lives better in every single way and choose not to

oh no not my precious LLMs please anything but my precious LLMs

Yeah but that's just marketing and free agents expressing their ideas in the marketplace of ideas! This is propaganda! /S

[–] remon@ani.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

Anything that poisons AI chatbots is a win in my book.

[–] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 5 points 2 weeks ago

This just in: computer program that takes in any trash and repeats it without thinking acts exactly like right-wingers on the Internet.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

How about we make personal responsibility cool again? While I have no doubt that the Kremlin us up to the same old shit, responsibility for training the bots rests with their masters, not Putin.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 2 points 2 weeks ago

Republicans are pretending personal responsibility means just accepting their bullshit and not asking for anything to get better

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I'm sure .mlers and hexbear are ecstatic

Edit: awww, poor babies don't like being called out for their bullshit

Everyone gather round and take a close look at this specimen. Here is something very peculiar I've seen with the loudest ML users. They usually have a well rehearsed auth-left script with plausible talking points, but when it gets off script they show specific capitalist-coded rhetoric.

In real life, I've never met anyone on the left/far left who would use unemployment (especially under a capitalist-fascist hegemony) as a pejorative. The casting of unemployment as a personal failing and character flaw is a deeply capitalist narrative. The USSR, which they profess to support, widely publicized employment as a fundamental human right. It was in their Constitution!

So we have to consider: is this user dumb enough to think that furthering pro-capitalist fiction is praxis? Or are they not leftist at all, perhaps a false-flag agitant?

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml -4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wordy+stupid, try harder halfwit
