What are the red fingers about?

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

To answer your question, “about”, it’s just to add colour, aesthetics/vibes and or as a beautification of the bride. It’s still very much prevalent for weddings, celebrations.

They're all wearing so much clothing and blankets. Did it get cold that recently in India or are the clothes extremely breathable??

It's from a movie that takes place in mid 19th century. So the costumes are supposed to represent that time.

But the region it take place in is known for chilly winters.

Have not watched the movie. But if I’m not mistaken - many of the past traditions and including for the royalty. It was that the grooms family that would traverse through the land to pick up/bring back the bride back to his home. It’s still somewhat practiced if im not mistaken, but not like the caravan style as you seen in those old school films. A cleaner example of this in this film of a [prominent ruler] marries and goes to get his new bride back home. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodhaa_Akbar)

She's sort of a prostitute in the movie (not the same thing due to cultural differences, but those guys are all there for paid sexual relations). That's what the lyrics are about.

There's no fabric like Indian fabric. I miss it so much.
