Finally got where I stand: why uncomfortable? It's just being hard to impose a sensible approach to it:
Large swaths of people disagree with this, and it also causes legal uncertainty because the training data is copywritten or even patented.
Yup, legal problem is there. Not being a lawyer, I see this as a complicated bunch of problems no one is going to solve to the benefit of everyone who actually made this possible (artists, programmers, social media users etc), which is sad (right now I don't even have the strength to swear)
To anyone who thinks llms are only good at spewing nonsense: well, my experience as well as that of many others says otherwise
Oh the bright side: smaller local models are getting very good
On the bad side: large models are always a year ahead so everyone wants to keep using the datacenter ones.
How?
Local opposition to data centre builds seems to be most effective at the moment. People oppose it from across the political spectrum, and it's becoming a hot topic. Add your voice to the crowd.
I have no good answer to that. My personal choice is ruin/kill any bastard who orders/approves building of data centers in their current state (read: doing damage to everything immediately around them and well beyond that), but I am physically far from anyone in that group
