So much is getting better, social media and negativity bias in general is just making it seem like it's not.

Just for example, percentage of green energy is steadily rising. Even if it is not fast enough, that is still a constant improvement.

it's the hopelessness that gets to most of us, it certainly does to me. as you said not fast enough, all the good efforts exist sure but none of them seem to be able to outweigh the negative actions.

and even when good actions start happening i get the thought of "so we could've done that the entire time... but we just didn't" (i hope the NYC Mayor somehow becomes the president of the world, please)

Mainstream news are all negative. If you are struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel, try to look up newspapers/publications with only positive news. A lot of them don't get reported at all by normal media.

I know it's strange to hear, but while I expect a lot of pain in the short term, I expect things will be better in the longer term (20+ years).

i simply quit news altogether, apart from the occasional glimpse at the horrors i'm staying away. at least i'll be happy before things explode
