That's one of the reasons peanut butter is an incredible survival food. Nutrient/calorie dense, doesn't need refrigeration, shelf stable for a long long time, it's delicious. It checks a lot of boxes that not many other foods can.
Yes, PB is great for camping/hiking for this reason.
Cheese is another one.
