I mean that and the leaker is German and has been active for a while as it seems

Absolutely. Did you forget how predatory GTA Online is? Seems absolutely on brand for them to monetize their guerrilla advertising tactics.

Asking a federal court to subpoena Microsoft and Discord to find the hacker seems less likely for a marketing campaign, though.

If the fine is less than the profit they think they're get, I could see them doing it. Especially for a game about "crime". They've been going out of their way to build max hype to push a $100 game (because the $80 "Gta6 Diet" edition is a joke, just to say "we offered it at less than $100").
