No, he brought people who bring up politics into it. Op didn't name any political parties, and this isn't limited to supporters of any political party.
My interpretation is that the topic is politics. Whether it's specific political individuals, groups or candidates is beside the point. Saying "I don't talk about politics bro" is actually a political stance.
You probably think atheism is a religion as well.
That sounds clever, but in fact, while obviously atheism is not a religion, I think that discussing atheism counts as discussing religious beliefs, yes.
