Are we assuming repeatedly hitting the stairs?

I've always considered vertical and horizontal movement separately, so I thought I'd have to add even more to the approximated traveled road, not decrease it.

Let us approximate stairs with a regular slope. Assume rolling down the stairs with minimal aditional horizontal movement other than the slope itself.
