Check that the audio format of whatever you’re watching matches the output of your listening device. If you watch a movie using 5.1, but your TV is stereo, then yes all of the loud shit is going to be very loud and crowd out the dialog. This might not be the silver bullet for everyone, but it costs you nothing to check your settings.
Just because your TV can decode a better signal than it can playback, that doesn't mean that will give you the best user experience.
And that doesn't take I to account Hollywood laziness with not actually making a proper stereo mic and instead just using the original theater mix that assumes you have a 15,000 watt 20 speaker system.
