Not to be that guy, but it's actually Companies pay the running cost of YouTube (plus a little bit of pocket money for the creators whose videos you watch) so you can watch free of charge, in exchange for this they get to show you a video. I don't like Google either and rob them of their income by using an adblocker. Though if nobody pays and nobody watches ads they might find even worse ways to pay the bills.

*Companies pay Alphabet a running premium for advertising spots on all of their platforms, and for user data. youtube gives 1/300th of that to creators who make the content that draws traffic.

then YouTube steals your browsing history, advertising data on PC and app. as well as recently spoken words while using Thier app.

then they charge 3x what they pay to creators to disable some of the ads on YouTube, while still doing all the rest.
