They won't sell it to you, they're just making sure they aren't beholden to the same ram shortages the rest of the world is.

unless they eventually don't need foreign currency anymore because their own country produces everything they could ever need or want

Nope. China is too big of a country to produce everything they need themselves.

Contrary to popular belief, what china imports the most is actually electronic components. Followed by fossil fuels.

Those two categories alone account for ~40% of all Chineese imports as of 2024.
