I think they're also trying to pump up logged in unique visits for investors. They've been stagnant on those but non-logged in visits have been going up steadily. I think they're trying to convert a fraction of those visits into logged in accounts.

Yeah my experience is with custom split keyboards that still use the old method. Likely because keystrokes are waaaay less power than audio streaming.
That's exactly how they work. Same with a lot of combo keyboard and mouse systems, or split keyboard. One device does double duty so you only need 1 Bluetooth connection.
I like that better than giving 70.4% as much effort
IMO at the same bitrate 720p looks leagues better than 1080p apples to apples. It's my preferred trick for shitty internet connections since 720p just gets the job done still.
The other thing is solving on-the-job issues that crop up like the previous plumber not knowing their ass from a hole in the ground, and now you need to figure out how to deal with their cursed contraption. Good luck little robot! Hope you figure it out in such a way that the homeowner doesn't sue your AI startup into buying them a full house Reno, or the value of the house pre-poonado.
I'm also in the same boat as you. My job is in the field and is already heavily automated but that's not doing a damn thing for replacing me. The hard part is understanding a multivariate system and it's safety critical. Humans can manage it but AI can't yet, and probably never fully will.

I live in a really cold climate with electric baseboard heating (it's dumb. I didn't build the place I rent) so an inefficient fridge or freezer just takes money out of my heating bill and puts it into my keep-food-from-rotting bill
