I meant that I thought they were merging the two if Gemini could simply do what AlphaFold had been doing.

What I mean is I thought it was implied that AlphaFold is shutting down because Gemini can simply continue the work better.

That person was right: https://medicine.iu.edu/blogs/research-updates/the-protein-folding-problem-the-day-ai-unlocked-a-secret-of-life

So this may be why Google is closing AlphaFold; AI is already doing it.

So, I don't get this; if you let it install the drivers and then uninstall the drivers and use it, will it just keep reinstalling the drivers with each next connection?

Apart from the obviously superior solution of switching to Linux, would someone need to connect while fully offline to prevent it from installing drivers and just watch predownloaded stuff (or play games offline) or what?

At least it still raises public awareness about the problems with this tech generally being closed-source, and paves the way for an eventually successful open-source product over the years to come!

Yeah, I was about to say: with the prices of new machines nowadays, whenever all mine eventually conk out, I may just try to get used machines for pennies on the dollar at estate sales and revive them with Linux, haha.
