I agree that it not functioning properly is bad, but I don't think we should frame it like that. These aren't bad because they make mistakes. Fixing the mistakes doesn't make them acceptable.
Tracking people's movements at all times is bad. It removes people's freedoms, and it can easily be used to quash dissent. Even functioning perfectly, it is far too much freedom lost for a small amount of safety.

They're checked to make sure things are holding up, so who cares? If there's an issue then we'll know about it. If it's in long-term storage then it literally does not matter. The ground is shielding everything. There's radioactive rock all over in the ground.
The fear of radiation is the targeted propaganda. It isn't an issue. We deal with radiation all the time. Our bodies are adapted to fix radiation damage. In fact, there's growing evidence that a little more radiation is actually beneficial, not that a nuclear plant is going to increase your radiation exposure or anything.
This article says it's an issue with smart devices. It isn't. There are issues with them (mostly security), but this isn't that. This is an issue with making always-online services that have no need for it. There is absolutely zero reason this device should ever connect to the internet. The intranet should have everything it needs. The device should have its own clock (which I'm certain it does, or it wouldn't operate), and a connection should only be needed to change settings. Maybe it should expose itself to be connected to externally by your app to change settings or check status when you're away, but it shouldn't require a connection.

The earth has already literally been doing this. There's tons of radioactive material under the ground. In fact, there's literally a naturally occurring nuclear reactor that is safe underground. Here's an article that gives some visual representation of all the nuclear waste, and how little volume it takes up. It's just a matter of logistics to get it underground. In Finland, that's not too hard, because it's small. The US had plans for a solution, but it was logistically challenging to transport it all to one site from all over the US. Local storage makes more sense, and there's plenty of ways to do it. However, the casks are perfectly safe and there's no rush for a permanent solution for a few centuries probably, at this rate.

Obviously. We've all used the internet. Everyone knows it takes a few milliseconds to ping someone on the other side of the planet. No one thinks a pigeon can travel that fast. Also, yeah, transferring off the device may take longer, but we don't include unpacking files in download speed, for example. It just counts when the data arrives.

I agree that K is impractical. C and F have far more utility in everyday life. In my opinion, they're both fine. For cooking, I tend to think in C. For weather, I tend to think in F. They're both just arbitrary choosing useful values, and this means they're both useful for different things.
